European Peace Walk Day 20

Postojna, Slovenia — Gornja Košana, Slovenia
Approximate Distance: 24kms
Off we went, all dry from our drenching the day before and happy to see the sun shining. Beautiful country walking for a couple of hours which took us to a riding school camp where we had breakfast. Our waiter was gorgeous and he reminded me of Manuel from faulty towers. It was definitely the best breakfast I have had on the whole trip, maybe it was the company, views or the waiter. Not sure but a wonderful stop.
We arrived at a spot where Elly said that if we went right instead of left it would make our walk quicker, well that’s what her gps said, so after some discussion, off we went following Elly uphill into the bush, along a steep ridge, through thicker bush until some of us decided they had had enough. Three headed back and three decided to keep going when it was decided that we should stay together so that we don’t lose anyone. Lots of laughing as we went back downhill past where we had turned off and onto the longer path.
We walked like this for awhile when Elly saw that there was another short cut in through the woods and off the dirt road. Tim and Jude were up ahead and out of sight so Clare told Craig Elly and I to go on and she would let the others know and they would meet us when the track came together again. We stopped for a minute, when around the corner came Tim, Clare and Jude not wanting to miss out on all the fun, so off we all went into the woods. The track was marked but it looked like no one had used it for a very long time, and it was covered in blackberries. Glad to have our sticks to beat the blackberries out of the way. We were all in great spirits enjoying the adventure. We saw some interesting poo that no one had seen before, very large like, maybe a bear, not sure. Crossed a railway track, made me start singing stand by me. After about an hour or so we arrived back on track. Elly had one more short cut for us about a kilometre or two before our nest destination but unfortunately for us, as we love Elly’s shortcuts, the sky’s opened up again and poured down on us. We arrived wet but extremely happy and grateful to have had such an amazing day filled with fun and adventures. Ps we have 3 American woman who had caught up with us in Ljubljana and we spend time with in the evenings, Edith, Sharon and Lauren all beautiful girls. They somehow always seem to beat us, maybe it’s our shortcuts, anyway they had seen bear prints along the paths today in the area where we had seen the strange poo and told us that’s what bear poos look like. Edith sent me the photos of the paw prints so I have added them in my photos. Glad we didn’t see the bear as the prints looked rather large!!!!!!

  1. The photos took a while to download, so happy they did, gorgeous again. I saw a bear print in Canada – big ain’t they!! Your group of two has grown…and seemingly continues to do so. What fun.
