After spending 3 days resting in Trieste we decided to take the opportunity to go to Rovinj, an old town on the Istrian coast of Croatia, with our new friend Elly who is fluent in Croatian. Rovinj is an amazing town built on a hill with lots of small cobbled streets that was amazing to wander around them all. We would get up early before the crowds arrived and got to experience the stillness of it all. Closer to lunch time and the streets would be absolutely full!! We were told there was an extra million tourist this year! I don’t know how it will survive if the numbers keep rising. Elly said that years ago you could arrive by bus and the old woman would be there to greet you offering rooms to rent, I think they have moved out of the old city. We had 4 days together with poor Elly trying so hard to get me to roll my rrrrrr’s, but alas it wasn’t to be. Oh how easier it would have been had I been taught as a young girl. I’m sure it would come if I wasn’t so lazy!!!!! Oh well we finally got rid of Elly and I was free from all that rrrring in my ear!!!!! What an amazing time spent swimming in crystal clear waters and wandering around ancient streets. After so long together it was a little sad saying goodbye but we are grateful to have met each other and shared some incredible memories.
