I haven’t been able to download on my laptop for the last few weeks of our holiday, so I will post the last of our trip over the next week or two. here is Villach Austria.
Decided to visit Villach as I read they had a lake that we could visit. Lovely old town with a beautiful river, as with all these towns we have visited. Climbed to the top of St Jakob’s church, didn’t think I would ever see those two words together. 239 steps to the top. Got to the bell section and we had to wait at a red light as the spiral stairs were very skinny, and then the bells went off as it turned 3 o’clock, scared the s&@$ out of us. Incredible views at the top although you wouldn’t want to be scared of heights. Had a walk around town and came across a memorial for the locals who had died in the holocaust, so many family members that had been separated, the youngest going to Auschwitz , very sad and disturbing for us.
The next day I suggested we get up early to catch the train to lake Ossiach so that we could have the whole day and get up the mountain before the crowds arrived. Great idea…..until we got there at 7 am and found out nothing opens until 9 on a Saturday, not even the chair lifts, or somewhere for coffee!!!!!! Ah well, as usual we had a good laugh and gave Craig some ammo for me in the future, and so we walked around part of the lake until we could get to the top of the mountain.
Wow we went up the highest I think I have ever been, 1911 meters. Absolute stunning views!!!!!!!! I think I love the alps, only in summer though as it would be freezing in winter. After trying an apple strudel with warm custard, we walked down hill through the woods for a couple of hrs until we got to the middle section and caught a chair lift back to the lake. Glorious day spent in magical Austria. Tomorrow Salzburg
